Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative –
September 13, 2012
North Dakota is a small-town state, everyone is connected. I’m an out-of-state import, but that fact should be well ingrained by now.
Case in point: in my visits to various Dakota Plains Cooperative locations, I got to meet (re-meet?) my husband’s uncle, Kurt Christensen. I hadn’t seen Kurt since my wedding two years ago, so this reunion was WAY overdue. Kurt works as Dakota Plains’ agronomy plant manager in LaMoure. He’s one of the company’s 160 or so employees – surely you know a few of them too?
Dakota Valley Electric featured Dakota Plains in North Dakota Living’s local pages for October because that month, the United Nations will recognize the impact of cooperatives around the world. Like Dakota Valley, Dakota Plains is a cooperative. As part of its commitment to community, Dakota Plains donates about $40,000 each year to the 12 North Dakota communities it serves. As a principle, all cooperatives are required to commit to the communities they serve, and something us cooperatives should be proud of!
